United Nations Gives Tribute to John Lennon with Three International Day of Peace Stamps
The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) marked this year’s International Day of Peace with three new stamps featuring music icon and peace campaigner John Lennon.
The three stamps feature a different photo portrait of the former Beatle from the later stages of his life by photographers Bob Gruen, Iain Macmillan and David Nutter.
The stamps illustrated by Martin Mörck based on the images include Lennon’s classic anthem’s title world peace, “Imagine,” along with his signature. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the recording of “Imagine.”
“Its lyrics encourage us to put aside all differences and unify to imagine a world of peace, without greed, hunger, or barriers separating people and nations,” UNPA wrote.
International Day of Peace, was created in 1981, and became a world wide yearly celebration held on September 21, devoted to upholding peace among all communities and peoples.
